Classes set to begin at MSU Dubai this fall

Globe with East Lansing and Dubai highlighted.Classes are set to begin this fall at MSU Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. A variety of courses and programs will be offered, with additional programs being phased in the following academic year.

Classes offered in Dubai will be taught by MSU faculty members and other qualified experts who are scholars and professionals committed to and experienced in teaching, research and academic service. MSU's academic standards and program quality will apply equally in Dubai as they do in East Lansing and the same diploma will be awarded at the time of graduation.

“MSU Dubai combines the strengths of a top-ranked, not-for-profit, American university with the international perspectives available at the Dubai International Academic City,” said Brendan Mullan, executive director of MSU Dubai.

Mullan, who has been a faculty member of MSU for 17 years, was named to the position in December.

Undergraduate programs scheduled to begin this fall are: child and youth development; computer engineering; construction project management; early childhood education; and media management and research. Graduate programs are: educational technology; human resources and labor relations; packaging; and retailing.

Graduate programs planned for the 2009-10 academic year include: advertising; public relations; supply chain management; and hospitality business.

MSU Dubai has received more than 1,200 applications for the fall.

“MSU Dubai will provide students with a broad intellectual foundation that stimulates rigorous thought, critical inquiry and career-development knowledge and skills,” said Mullan. “Our programs in Dubai have been designed after careful consultation with academic and business leaders in the region and incorporate skills and perspectives essential for success. We will promote progressive and competitive higher education programs to support regional students and Dubai’s internationally distinguished knowledge economy. Scholars will extend their knowledge and expertise to local, national, and regional constituencies and communities.”
