A note from the editors
Fall is always densely packed with international activities at MSU. From the time that hundreds of new international students arrive on campus in August, through the September Study Abroad Fair, November's annual International Education Week, and into December with the return of many students and faculty from abroad, our students, faculty and staff are intensively engaged in the international mission of the university. Provost's week in China addresses multiple priorities
The bond between MSU and China was further strengthened during an October trip to China by top level MSU administrators. Activities included the grand opening of the MSU China Office, the signing of several partnership agreements between MSU and Chinese institutions, and a student recruitment fair. Go to Full Story

International Film Festival an exciting addition to annual MSU International Education Week
MSU International Education Week will be bigger and better than ever this year, thanks, in part, to the addition of the recently announced Communication Arts and Sciences International Film Festival. Go to Full Story

MSU linguist to document threatened African language
An MSU linguistics and languages researcher is spending the 2006-07 academic year in southern Tanzania, where he is conducting research to help preserve Kikisi, one of the more than 120 languages spoken there and one that is currently facing the threat of extinction.

MSU professor explores connections in Nigeria
Contrary to popular belief, most professors don’t spend summers simply relaxing after a strenuous academic year. Especially for faculty at a research institution like MSU, summer offers time to pursue their research more intensely and away from campus. This past summer, James Madison College’s Rita Kiki Edozie spent time in Nigeria, where she attended the Leon Sullivan African Summit VII. Go to Full Story

College of Veterinary Medicine strengthens ties with linkage partner in India
Fourteen faculty and staff members from MSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine traveled to Chennai, India, during summer 2006 to exchange ideas and scientific papers with colleagues and students at Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS). They were accompanied by Mary Anne Walker, managing director of the Office of International Development. Go to Full Story

The 'team is your family' for Dutch student athletes on field hockey team
To the extent that people think at all about international student athletes at MSU, the sport that comes to mind is probably men’s ice hockey and the athletes are probably Canadian. But players from abroad participate on more than half of the competitive sports teams at MSU. Go to Full Story

'Wanted: More international students applying to MSU'
MSU boasts a population that includes students from more than 130 countries. Students find their way to MSU from countries throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East, as well as Canada. If Antarctica had high school students, chances are good that some of them would end up studying in East Lansing. Go to Full Story

Williams leads MSU's global alumni relations project
Keith A. Williams, who served as executive director of the Michigan State University Alumni Association from 1995 until this fall, has been appointed to lead a new initiative to enhance MSU’s global alumni relations. Go to Full Story

Introducing international alumni 'Class Notes'
The MSU Alumni Association is establishing a new service designed to help our international alumni stay in touch with each other. Class Notes will be housed on the Alumni Association Web site and will be coordinated by L. Patrick Scheetz, assistant director of alumni relations for the MSU Alumni Association and liaison with international alumni clubs. Go to Full Story
